On Tuesday, Nissan unveiled the Z Proto which will be the first new version of its Nissan Z sports car in more than a decade. The Proto is short for prototype, which means that this isn’t just a pure concept car, it’s about 98% of the production model that’s expected to debut next year before hitting dealers in 2022, possibly carrying the 400Z moniker.
The last production version was introduced in 2009 and it hasn’t been substantially redesigned since then. The Z Proto has a number of design elements drawn from earlier model Z models. The headlights and shape of its hood are similar to the 240Z’s classic sports car proportions. The Z Proto has a manual transmission and it has a turbocharged V6 engine.
